NSA Congratulates President-elect Trump

Wednesday, November 9, 2016

Alexandria, VA – National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) President Greg Champagne issued the following statement congratulating President-elect Trump.

The National Sheriffs’ Association congratulates President-elect Donald J. Trump on his victory yesterday. We look forward to working with him in both upholding the rule of law and keeping America safe.

President-elect Trump has spoken of and demonstrated his strong support for law enforcement throughout the campaign. We commend him for that and appreciate his advocacy.  This partnership comes at a challenging time for law enforcement.  Together we must reshape the conversation to one which is supportive of law enforcement officers. We must work to reverse the hostility by some towards law enforcement officers that has been allowed to creep in over the last couple of years. This hostility has even led to unwarranted violence against the American law enforcement officers.  Every day, brave officers deal with life and death issues across this country such as the ongoing mental health crisis and ever growing opioid epidemic plaguing our citizens. Unrestrained illegal immigration across our borders must be brought under control.

We look forward to meeting these challenges head-on with President-Elect Trump and wish him great success in leading this nation.
