NSA and MCSA Applaud Executive Orders on Law Enforcement
Alexandria, VA – The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) and the Major County Sheriffs' Association (MCSA) released the following statement:
Today the President signed three extensive executive orders designed to support and enhance our nation's rule of law. We applaud the President's actions, and we are encouraged to see him acting swiftly to help rein-in the significant surge in crime in America.
Specifically his direction to the Attorney General to form a commission to evaluate current practices, rules, regulations, and laws that hinder law enforcement are a welcome step and we look forward to playing an active role.
For too long the nation's law enforcement has had to operate without all of the necessary tools to keep us safe. The Executive Order addresses transnational criminal activities and gives us greater authority and support to stop a host of international organized crime entities and initiatives at its roots. Equally important, it focuses on not allowing borders to stand in the way of usurping our fight and other nation’s fight against criminal organizations seeking to infiltrate and perpetuate crimes here in the U.S.
Perhaps most important is the President's direction to the Attorney General to identify and use all tools necessary to protect the men and women of law enforcement, this directive is not only welcome but long overdue. We thank the President and welcome the nation's re-awakening of support for law enforcement, the rule of law, and the need to protect our borders and enhance the nation's criminal justice system.
