Statement from the National Sheriffs’ Association President Greg Champagne regarding New Mexico Governor Grisham’s Gun Ban

“America’s sheriffs echo, what we have heard from our New Mexico sheriffs, and frankly a wide cross section of New Mexicans who spoke out against this misguided action taken by Governor Grisham.

These actions will do nothing to curb the disturbing rise in crime and violence in that area and would not only put an unneeded burden on law enforcement but would only make the community less safe and leave citizens vulnerable and feeling insecure.

Already countless legal experts are saying there are considerable constitutional questions about this order. We disagree with any policies or decisions that infringe upon or restrict the 2nd Amendment of our communities.”
