NSA Mourns Passing of Former Board President (1989-1990) Lyle Swenson

July 24, 2024 (Alexandria, VA) – The National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) extends its condolences to the family of Lyle Swenson upon the July 16th passing of Mr. Swenson, who served as Sheriff of Davison County, SD for over 30 years and held the seat of President of the NSA Board of Directors from 1989-1990.

Retired Sheriff Dan Smith (NSA Board of Directors President, 1998-1999) remembered Swenson by commenting how "he was an iconic example of a small county sheriff who rose to the highest level of his profession."

And Retired Sheriff Keith Cain (former NSA Executive Committee member) remembered "Sheriff Swenson was an early mentor when I started with the NSA.  He was always kind and welcoming."
