SHERIFFS APPLAUD CLOSING OF DE MINIMUS LOOPHOLE

April 3, 2025 – (Alexandria, V.A.) – The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) Executive Director Jonathan Thompson released the following statement concerning President Trump’s Executive Order ending the de minimis trade loophole that helped fuel the opioid epidemic.

“America’s Sheriffs praise President Trump for finally shutting this damaging loophole. We have long advocated the last two Administrations to take action and help reduce the flow of the most devastating drugs, especially fentanyl into the country. Communities have been ravaged by fentanyl and this action will assist law enforcement to help stop the destruction.”
