NSA Announces New Deputy Executive Director
Alexandria, VA – National Sheriffs’ Association Executive Director/CEO Jonathan Thompson announced today the appointment of Tim Woods as the Association’s Deputy Executive Director/COO. Tim succeeds former Deputy Executive Director/COO John Thompson, who announced his resignation in November, effective December 31st, to become Executive Director of the National Animal Care & Control Association.
Tim joined NSA in 1997 and has held numerous positions within the Association over the past 21 years, including Director of Research & Development, Director of Government Affairs, and, most recently, Director of Grants & Contracts.
In accepting his new position, Tim expressed “gratitude” to former Deputy Executive Director John Thompson for his “professional support, and his service to NSA over the past 16 years,” while ensuring Executive Director Jonathan Thompson and all the Sheriffs of this country that “I will always strive to serve the Office of Sheriff, and all the men and women of law enforcement, to the best of my abilities.”
Prior to joining NSA, Tim held national-level positions as Director of Networking and Outreach for the Department of Justice’s National Criminal Justice Reference Service and as Manager of Training & Technical Assistance at the National Consortium of Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities (TASC) headquarters. He began his criminal justice career in rural Virginia, working at the local level as a Case Manager and then Supervisory Case Manager in community corrections.
An attorney by training, Tim has a Juris Doctor degree from St. Louis University School of Law, and a Master of Laws’ degree in International and Comparative Law from the Georgetown University Law Center, as well as a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Virginia.
In announcing this new appointment, Executive Director Thompson noted that, “based on Tim’s years of dedicated service at NSA, this appointment makes for a smooth succession, and I am confident that the Sheriffs of this nation will continue to be well served with Tim as Deputy Executive Director.”
